Following classical guitar and music studies at the Conservatorium, Johan switched to music technology at the Utrecht School of the Arts, where he graduated in 1998 with a major in “Composition for Media” and “Music Production”. He worked as a film composer, record producer, teacher and DJ while playing guitar with many pop/rock bands and released several records.
After eight years of “paying dues” and learning the ropes-all the while composing effective scores for silent movies and multimedia productions he moved to London in 2005 to pursue a career as film score composer.
Armed with practical experience in orchestrating, an academic degree, original music for student films, a love of movies, and a sophisticated knowledge of world music, Johan rapidly proves himself a versatile, imaginative, and dependable film composer. With projects soon involving the complete audio post production including foley, sounddesign and mixing.
Working in his London studio (rebranded in 2005 to Soundgram Post) surrounded by dozens of instruments and sound design props, Johan wrote the score for the feature film “Clocking Paper” by American director Korhan Gurocak and provided music, sound and foley for several short films together with a team of freelancers.
In 2009 it was time to build a new post production studio in The Netherlands. Build on the experience from London, but with a Dutch price tag.
